The great golfer Babe Didrikson Zaharias

Babe Didrikson Zaharias is one of the finest golfers of all. She started playing golf after excelling in many other sports. She was given her nickname ‘Babe’, as she was an excellent baseball player. She has had forty one tour victories which included all major championships. She is member of World Golf Hall of Fame. Babe Didrikson Zaharias has been featured on the American postage stamp in the year 1981. She has the privilege of being the first American to win a British Ladies Amateur Championship. The LPGA record for the fastest 10 wins is held by her. The same record for fastest to 20 and 30 wins is also held by her.

Babe grew up in Texas and is named the greatest female athlete ever. Time magazine in 1932, described her as the ‘famed woman athlete’. She played many games that included basketball, swimming, track and field among many others. In the Olympics of 1932, she won gold for javelin and 80 meter hurdles. She entered golf in her twenties and won the first tournament. She was a hard worker and practiced a lot every day. She suffered from colon cancer and had surgery in 1953. She came back and won the 1954 U.S. Women’s Open. She died at the age of 45.
